Classical style in film form

Summarise ( with examples form Casablanca and other films where possible ) the key conventions and "rules" of classical Hollywood style film form. Cinematography and lighting ( e.g matching eyelines, 180 degree rule , framing and shot types  for clear narrative   ) Matching eyelines - when the camera shows a person looking at another person at eye level, make the conversation or encounter seem realistic  180 degree rule -  180-degree rule is a basic guideline regarding the on-screen spatial relationship between a character and another character or object within a scene. This is performed by keeping the camera at an 180 angle, makes the audience feel the film is more real Framing - a shot that involves a series of frames on one particular thing, such as a conversation, this is a way to keep the viewers engaged Editing  ( e.g cause and effect, invisible continuity editing , use of shot /reverse shot , narrative resolution should be clear ) Cause and effe...

Evaluating the 2 plot twists of high maintenance

The first plot twist of involves a 'human like' woman and her 'husband' eating dinner on their anniversary, having blunt and dead conversation as well as acting very emotionless. The plot twist is quite surprising, in which the fact that the husband is a robot. However this is quiet surprising because the audience is not expecting this as the first scene starts with two people that look like they could be together, slowly getting into an argument, and as the fact that the audience are focused on the argument, we don't really realise the certain clues that he is a robot, and therefore it is a surprise. The second plot twist may seem less surprising as people may have seen it coming, this twist involves the woman ordering a new robot she customised herself and it shows the same situation as the first scene happening again, and this is when you realise that actually she may be a robot, and the twist is the fat that the new robot she ordered reversed the roles with wha...

To what extent does the 'Pitch Black Heist' conform with a normal heist film?

Film studies - Heist films To what extent does the 'Pitch Black Heist' conform with a normal heist film? One way the movie conforms  is the way that the film starts off introducing the characters, and they start to plan the heist as a team, although the extent is the fact that the short film doesnt show the heist itself in action, as the scene takes place in a pitch black room and all you can take out of the scene is the conversation between the 2 characters.  This then leads to another extent which differentiates this film to other heist films by the shift of genres and moods midway through the film. It is scene as a classic heist film during the build up, but as the heist takes place the genre may change into a sort of 'family drama' as the 2 heist partners realise they are related.

CASABLANCA : Film Form analysis 1

QUESTION -  Analyse how the following elements of  film form  are used to  create meaning  and guide  audience response (  understanding of narrative, setting, characters , plot, themes etc. ) in the  " Introduction to Rick's Bar " sequence. Cinematography   -As we start the scene the camera films the outside of the bar, with the only lighting shown is the sign of the bar and the light of the watch tower shining past the entrance every couple seconds. -The camera enters the bar like it is within our point of view as it is filming at an average eye level. -As the camera enters the bar is travels from the entrance (right to left) deeper into the bar, showing the whole environment. Editing  -The cuts and editing begins when we enter the bar. As the camera moves from the door to rick's office, the camera cuts from person to person and conversation to conversation to show the audience what life in Casablanc...
