Handheld camera work, natural light -  makes it seem more realistic

ANSWER

One way Arnold uses form of social realism is by  the use of camera compositing. Arnold uses hand held and close up shots to show the daily life of the main character, Zoe, to the audience. For example, the first shot is a close up shot of Zoe in her bare feet walking down the stairs of a council flat. From this shot the audience can already gather that herself and her family are living in poverty. Hand held shots are then used again later on again in the scene when Zoe and her family are walking out of the flat on the wait to meet her neighbour. The hand held shot is used to shoe the audience that Zoe is walking with purpose by the fact that the hand held shots are aimed at the children as well, mainly the baby in Zoe's arm and shows that the baby is not dressed properly, suggesting to the audience that Zoe isn't thinking about her kids as she is angry. These hand held shots make the story seem more realistic and gives the scene a more natural effect as the audience are drawn into believing they are a part of the situation themselves, almost as if they are walking with them. These shots are scene to create social realism as the audience will know that these type of altercations happen and it is not fantasy as the filming and shots are very raw and seems almost real and not scripted.

Another way Arnold uses forms of social realism is through sound. Through the use of no music or background noise, just dialogue. For example in the second scene where the main character Zoe and her neighbour start a brawl outside her house, during this you can not really tell who is talking due to the fact that the dialogue is overlapped this is more realistic as in an actual fight it would be like this as pure chaos would unravel, due to this fact a form of social realism occurs.

CONNECT SHORT FILM ANALYSIS - JULIAN

Connect explores how imagination and emotion binds in with the real life, one major factor that shows this is when the camera shows all of the civilians faces on the bus by uing close hand held shots. When the camera zooms in on their faces they look emotionless, almost as if they are disjointed from reality, from the real world. This could be because they are imagining certain things and feeeling emotion on the inside. When the girl puts in her headphones as the music fades in she also zones out and starts imagining things primarily being shown that as soon as she zones out all of a sudden the businessman assassinates the old lady to take her seat, but then the girl zones back in so the music is stopped and the scenery is back to normal.

City Of God Openening scene analysis

City Of God Openening scene analysis Through photography, mise-en-scene, sound, and editing, City Of God conveys the concepts of disorder and anarchy in the favella to the audience. This is demonstrated in the first scene, when the gang is chasing the chicken. The first thing we see in the movie, for example, is a knife being sharpened against a stone. Knives are normally hazardous things, and the fact that it is being sharpened against a stone suggests a barbaric lifestyle: this is foreshadowing Lil Z's brutal lifestyle, which he imposes on his gang through proxy. This quickly builds suspense and makes the spectator question the characters' motives. The editing heightens the suspense by using almost whiplash-inducing, flashing cuts between the knife and the dark screen, reinforcing the sense of urgency. Normally, a barbecue would be a joyful, tranquil, and familiar sight; but, the tight camera angles and fast cuts disrupt this. The sequence cuts back and forth between sever...

No country for old men, ending questions - David

Do you find the ending of the film to be satisfying resolution ?  Why ? I do find the ending to be satisfying, as i feel like the ending was very different and took a different turn from other movies in general or movies of this genre. One main difference was the fact that the main character Llewellyn Moss died when the film was building up to one big final duel between him and Anton Chigurh however, moss died off screen by people not even related to Chigurh and it was very anti climatic. As well as this happening, there was another difference, because this death should of led to Sheriff En Tom bell taking over as the main hero figure. However, he didn't and he decided to step down from being in the law. This was because all this .new wave' of crime wasn't suited to him
