Wallace and gromit task (what i have done so far) - julian

How did Wallace and gromit : The wrong trousers keep people engaged?

One way the film kepth the audience engaged was through todorov's theory. In summary his theory had 5 steps which was; Equilibrium to Disruption to Recognition to Repair To finally a new Equilibrium.

Now if we put this into example, the short film followed these rules in one of the final scenes where Wallace and Gromit are chasing the penguin around the house trying to capture it. For example Gromit is on the train at the back trying to get to the the penguin who is at the front and the penguin is shooting at Gromit, this is the first equilibrium. Then Wallace is on a train next to them and takes the gun from the penguin, however he is not looking and flies through the window onto a trolley, this is the disruption. Next the penguin is distrsacted by what happened and doesnt have a gun any more which gives Gromit a chance to make a move on him. However gromit gets the distracted by wallace trying to catch the villan again but failing, which alows the villan to derail the train and get away from the heros of the film, leaving them to eventually hit a wall, this is the recognition. Finally, the way that two main characters repair this situation is buy picking up a box of rails and placing them so they are safe again by diverting the wall. With Todorov's theory coming alive in this short film, the way it keeps audience engaged is the fact that it is short and snappy and it catches

City Of God Openening scene analysis

City Of God Openening scene analysis Through photography, mise-en-scene, sound, and editing, City Of God conveys the concepts of disorder and anarchy in the favella to the audience. This is demonstrated in the first scene, when the gang is chasing the chicken. The first thing we see in the movie, for example, is a knife being sharpened against a stone. Knives are normally hazardous things, and the fact that it is being sharpened against a stone suggests a barbaric lifestyle: this is foreshadowing Lil Z's brutal lifestyle, which he imposes on his gang through proxy. This quickly builds suspense and makes the spectator question the characters' motives. The editing heightens the suspense by using almost whiplash-inducing, flashing cuts between the knife and the dark screen, reinforcing the sense of urgency. Normally, a barbecue would be a joyful, tranquil, and familiar sight; but, the tight camera angles and fast cuts disrupt this. The sequence cuts back and forth between sever...

CASABLANCA : Film Form analysis 1

QUESTION -  Analyse how the following elements of  film form  are used to  create meaning  and guide  audience response (  understanding of narrative, setting, characters , plot, themes etc. ) in the  " Introduction to Rick's Bar " sequence. Cinematography   -As we start the scene the camera films the outside of the bar, with the only lighting shown is the sign of the bar and the light of the watch tower shining past the entrance every couple seconds. -The camera enters the bar like it is within our point of view as it is filming at an average eye level. -As the camera enters the bar is travels from the entrance (right to left) deeper into the bar, showing the whole environment. Editing  -The cuts and editing begins when we enter the bar. As the camera moves from the door to rick's office, the camera cuts from person to person and conversation to conversation to show the audience what life in Casablanc...

No country for old men, ending questions - David

Do you find the ending of the film to be satisfying resolution ?  Why ? I do find the ending to be satisfying, as i feel like the ending was very different and took a different turn from other movies in general or movies of this genre. One main difference was the fact that the main character Llewellyn Moss died when the film was building up to one big final duel between him and Anton Chigurh however, moss died off screen by people not even related to Chigurh and it was very anti climatic. As well as this happening, there was another difference, because this death should of led to Sheriff En Tom bell taking over as the main hero figure. However, he didn't and he decided to step down from being in the law. This was because all this .new wave' of crime wasn't suited to him
